The infallible word of GOD

Shem Ham and Japheth

What is the true order of birth

There are many different ideas concerning the chronological order of birth of three sons of Noah. We know that only one could be correct, and that one can only be that of the Bible. If these other sources are incorrect on this subject, then we cannot trust them with any other truth. This lesson will illustrate that the bible is the only source of truth.

This lesson is predicated on two facts of the Bible. The Bible is the Word Of GOD and GOD will hide the truth from the reader/unbeliever/unsaved

  1. The Bible is the Word Of GOD

The pages of the Bible declare it to be the Word of the Living God. (2Timothy 3:16–17) Every scripture is God inspired, and beneficial for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction– the one in righteousness; that the man of God should be complete for accomplishing every work good. Or (Revelation 22:18,19) For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life. Or (2Peter 1:21)  For not by will of man was prophecy borne at some time or other, but by holy spirit being borne the holy men of God spoke.

It Follows then, that If the Bible is the Word of God then it must be truthful (John 17:17)  Sanctify them in your truth Your word is truth,  As GOD absolutely hates lies (Proverbs12:22) Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD; but the one dealing in trust is accepted by him.

Since we establish that the word of our GOD is true, and HE personify truth, we also beheld HIS works through the pages of the Bible. The Author is proven to have power beyond our wildest imaginations. (Romans 1:20) For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. The Author obviously cannot declare anything that is contrary to fact. A very important characteristic of Scripture is its infallibility and accuracy. To confess that the Word of God is infallible, we declare that the Scriptures are incapable of teaching any errors or inaccuracies. By implication the Scripture is perfect. (Psalm 19:7) The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul or (Psalm 12:6 ) The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.

We do know that Translations are in errors or have numerous inaccuracies, because they come from out of the minds(interpretation) of men who are at best ignorant, and at worse deceitful. (2 Peter 1:20-21) – Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. Or (1 Corinthians 2:13) Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth;  comparing spiritual things with spiritual. The original  manuscripts penned by the prophets and scribes are the Words of GOD that He has given to us. So perceived errors and inaccuracies, are a result of man’s flawed understanding or unbelief ….which lead to the second predicate.

2) GOD will hide the truth from the reader/unbeliever/unsaved

Yes, GOD literally hides the truth of the Gospel from those HE chooses not to know (Matthew 11:25).. At that time Jesus said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent… GOD speak to men in parables (Mark 4: 33-34) And with such many parables he spoke to them the word, as they were able to hear.  And without parables he did not speak to them. But in private he explained all to his disciples. So, if the “Jesus” of the Bible wrote the Bible then we must conclude from that, the entire Bible is in the form of parables.

Another passage goes even further (Matthew 13:10-11)  And having come, the disciples said to him, why in parables do you speak to them? And he answering said to them that, To you has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to those it has not been given. By the way Jesus was referring to Israelites on both sides (Matthew 13: 12) For whosoever has, it shall be given to him, and he shall abound; but whosoever does not have, even what he has shall be lifted from him.

So why did God write the Bible in such a way? The next verse puts it quite succinctly:

(Matthew 13: 13-15)  On account of this I speak to them in parables. For seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor perceive. And is fulfilled by them the prophecy of Isaiah, the one saying, hearing you shall hear, and in no way should you perceive; and seeing you shall see, and in no way should you know. For the heart of this people was thickened, and with the ears heavily they heard, and they closed the eyelids of their eyes; lest at any time they should see with the eyes, and with the ears should hear, and the heart should perceive, and they should turn, and I shall heal them.

Yes; God is the one who expound truth from the Bible. He will not expound truth to the degenerate man, lest he understand the truth of the gospel and becomes regenerate. Let us see how that plays out in the understanding of the birth order of the three brothers.

Shem, Ham and Japheth(what is the birth order)

When I first got interested in this subject was about the time I was realizing that I was an actual Israelite and not a gentile. Some forum on YouTube brought to my attention a passage from the Zondervan Dictionary. And I quote: “Ham: the youngest son of Noah, born probably about 96 years before the flood, and one of the eight persons to live through the flood. He became the progenitor of the dark races, not the negroes, but the Egyptian, Ethiopians, Libyans and Canaanites (Gen.10:6-20)His indecency when his father lay drunken brought a curse upon Canaan…”

This was new and interesting information for me at that time, because prior to that I was in the Christian false religion and taught that I was a Hamite. The white man had also assumed the identity of Shem. And somewhat reluctantly Japheth also…I wonder why? (smirking). Later the Whiteman found out that Ham was the most civilized of the three brothers…the one that built all the great civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia, he changed his mind and assumed the Hamite identity and regulated me to an evolved creature. Back to the subject… it was not long after that I found out that this was I common theme for pretty much all the so-called Hebrew Israelite teaching forums, YouTube, books and website. It is like a bible of sorts…the go to for knowing who the real Israelites are. Many So-called Israelite read this may just start wearing funny clothes, join some Israelite organization or groups,  talk Israelite shit, and start keeping laws they don’t have any clue about what they are doing. But they haven’t got any idea of who the GOD of Israel is and most likely don’t think He is important, so basically they just go about their lives the same way as before.

Fact is, the quote from the Zondervan Dictionary is incorrect…Ham is NOT the youngest son of Noah. And Ham was NOT the one who did anything inappropriate to their father…It was Canaan! This book is written by man, and though it may correctly state that the negroes are not Ham, how can you be assured that the entire statement is reliable if part of it is incorrect?

It can be shown that it was common knowledge who the real Israelites were during those days. It is only remarkable to us today because that information was suppressed during slavery and colonialism. The information is in the Bible. It is the only accurate and reliable source of information concerning the Israelite of GOD. Israel would prefer to harken to man’s word instead of GOD. So they are fed lies and love it.

Shem, Japhet and Ham

But let us get back to the subject: We first met these brothers in (Gen_5:32 )And Noah was five hundred years  and he procreated three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

At this point we would not necessarily jump to the conclusion that they are here listed as birth order, because we wouldn’t have enough information. But when we continue reading further… (Gen_6:10)And Noah procreated three sons, Shem, Ham, Japheth. Reading even further in Gen_7:13  In this day entered Noah, Shem, Ham, Japheth, the sons of Noah, and the wife of Noah, and the three wives of his sons with him into the ark. Is there a pattern here?

Is GOD trying to show you something here? All three times GOD enumerate the three brothers together, it is always Shem, Ham, Japheth. Now jumping ahead, we observe that GOD has enumerated the three brothers together a total of only six times in the Bible:

  • Gen_5:32And Noah was five hundred years(old) and he procreated three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
  • Gen_6:10And Noah procreated three sons, Shem, Ham, Japheth.
  • Gen_7:13 In this day entered Noah, Shem, Ham, Japheth, the sons of Noah, and the wife of Noah, and the three wives of his sons with him into the ark.
  • Gen_9:18And these were the sons of Noah, the ones coming forth from the ark, Shem, Ham, Japheth. And Ham was father of Canaan.
  • Gen_10:1And these (are) the generations of the sons of Noah — Shem, Ham, Japheth. And were born to them sons after the flood.
  • 1Ch_1:4Noah, Shem, Ham, Japheth.

This makes it even clearer that this is in chronological order (1Ch_1:4) Noah, Shem, Ham, Japheth …with Noah, obviously the oldest one because he is the father; then comes his oldest son, Shem; then his middle son Ham; then, Japheth the baby of the three

Now if this was the last time that the three brothers were chronologized together and we would have come out with the knowledge that Shem was the oldest, then Ham, then Japheth the younger of the three. But there are those who will not see even though they have eyes. GOD introduced a stumbling block: Starting from Gen 9:20-24.

Lets examine these verse by verse to understand them properly:

(Gen 9:20)  And Noah the man began to be a farmer of the land. And he planted a vineyard,

Apparently after the flood, Noah chose farming as his occupation and cultivated a vineyard

(Gen 9:21) and drank from the wine, and became intoxicated, and became naked in his house.

One day Noah drank so much that he became drunk. At some point he became unclothes in his house. No explanation was given in this verse for the reason why he is naked. The reader should not assume something the Bible has not made clear.

(Gen 9:22)  And Ham the father of Canaan looked at the nakedness of his father; and going forth, he announced it to his two brothers outside.

Apparently Ham was first on the scene and noticed that his father Noah is drunk and naked. A point of note here, is that GOD is confirming for the second time so far that Ham is the father of Canaan. It does not say here that Ham did anything inappropriate other than to neglect his fathers’ condition. He should have covered his father but instead he chose to tell his brothers who were outside. The law is that he should clothes the naked.

(Ezk 18:7)  and in no way shall he tyrannize over a man, and collateral taken as a pledge being owed he shall give back, and things for seizure he shall not seize by force, and he shall give his bread to the one hungering, and he shall cover the naked with a garment;

in a non-spiritual sense, but in a spiritual sense each man should cover their brothers shame or sin. But then again someone could argue that the law wasn’t given yet

(Gen 9:23)  And Shem and Japheth taking the cloak, placed it upon their two backs, and went backwards, and they covered up the nakedness of their father; and their face was backwards, and they did not look at the nakedness of their father.

So here we have the other two brother of Ham walking backwards with a cloak to cover up the nakedness of their father. Its hard to imagine this but GOD assures us that they did not see the nakedness of their father. But Ham did.

(Gen 9:24)  And Noah sobered up from the wine, and knew as much as his younger son did to him.

So at some point Noah sobered up from his drunkenness. The Bible stated that when Noah woke up he “knew as much as his younger son did to him”

So this is where people came upon the idea that Ham was the youngest son of Noah and will point to this verse as proof. So now the chronology is either Shem, Japheth, and Ham or possibly Japheth, Shem, and Ham. So, did ( Gen 9:24) states that Ham is the youngest son of Noah. Let us examine this further. We need to understand when the bible uses a word, we must examine the word in its context. For example the word “son” can be a direct son, like Ham is a son of Noah. On the other hand, the meaning could be extended to a further descendant.

Let’s look at (1 Ch 8:1-40). It is about the descendants of Benjamin. Between verse one and verse 36 there were tens of generation listed until we get to Moza who engendered Binea who engendered Rapha who engendered Eleasah. Then Eleasah engendered two sons of which one was a man name Eshek who himself engendered a man called Ulam. The Bible goes on to describe this man having  sons who “were mighty men in strength, stretching the bow, and multiplying sons, and sons of the sons — a hundred and fifty. Apparently this man not only engendered mighty warriors but also a great number of them. (1Ch 8:40)  And the sons of Ulam were mighty men in strength, stretching the bow, and multiplying sons, and sons of the sons — a hundred and fifty. But don’t miss the important point that between Moza and Ulams grandsons there are another 7 generations of Benjamin. But the chapter (1Ch 8:40) concludes in saying that “all these the sons of Benjamin”  Fact is the word son G5207 means a son in the sense of immediate or remote kinship.

This may be somewhat of an overkill explanation. Like killing a fly with a cannon. The fly is not only dead but obliterated. There is a much easier one. Remember Jacob said in

(Gen 48:5)  Now then, your two sons, the ones born to you in the land of Egypt, before my coming to you in Egypt, are mine, Ephraim and Manasseh, as Reuben and Simeon they shall be mine.

Jacob is stating that  Ephraim and Manasseh  are his sons although they are actually his grandsons. They are His sons for the purpose of sharing the land. Each has equal inheritance as  Reuben and Simeon. You never heard the Bible saying the 12 sons of Israel as 10 sons and 2 grandsons. This is the blessings that Jacob gave to his two grandsons, integrating them into the twelve tribes of Israel co-equal with the other sons of Jacob.

(Gen 48:16)  the angel rescuing me from all evils, bless these boys! And my name shall be called upon them , and the name of my fathers — Abraham and Isaac. And may they multiply into a great multitude upon the earth.

Going back to did ( Gen 9:24) we can see from the context that Noah is referring to Canaan. Maybe that is the reason the Bible mentions that Ham is the father of Canaan. At this time maybe Ham was the only of the three sons had male offspring. Or maybe the others had but they were older than Canaan, twice before this incident. But see how we don’t have to deduce who Noah was referring…

(Gen 9:25)  And he said, Accursed be Canaan — a child, he will be a domestic servant to his brothers.

It says it plainly that Noah is referring to Canaan and not Ham. Why would Noah be cursing Canaan if Ham was the one who did something inappropriate to him. We cannot read from anywhere in the verses above that Ham did anything wrong. So, it had to be Canaan who did something inappropriate. At this point it is mere conjecture what exactly Canaan did. But let the facts speak for itself. Noah was found drunk and naked in his house. Apparently he was clothed before he got drunk. Ham was the first of the brothers on the scene to discover his father naked in his house. When Noah awoke

(Gen 9:24  And Noah sobered up from the wine, and knew as much as his younger son did to him). The best we can gather is that Canaan disrobed his grandfather as a youthful prank. And his grandfather didn’t appreciate it.. so, he was cursed for it.

I have seen a lot of commentary which try to assess what Ham did to his father. Some vary from Homosexual acts to his father to incest with Mrs. Noah…his mother.  These are just the fantasies of men. Men trying to interpret what the Bible says, instead of hearing what it said.

Flavius Josephus

This is a good example of how false doctrine and works of errors had crept into the false Christian doctrine and has influenced their false theology.

Pretty much everything we know of Josephus Flavius is out of his mouth; his autobiography “THE LIFE OF FLAVIUS JOSEPHUS” he claims to be a Jew,  born in Jerusalem in AD 37 or 38, (a couple of years after Christ’s crucifixion). Claimed to be The son of a priest and his mother descended from royal Jewish line.  he became a Pharisee, a military commander in the Jewish resistance, and claimed to be an eyewitness to Jerusalem’s destruction in AD 70. Apparently he likes to toot his own horn;  I couldn’t go much further after I encountered this quote from him; “Moreover, when I was a child, and about fourteen years of age, I was commended by all. for the love I had to learning; on which account the high priests and principal men of the city came then frequently to me together, in order to know my opinion about the accurate understanding of points of the law”. At that point I thought this was too much hogwash for me. But I urge to take a read for yourself. Please do not spend any money to buy a book. All you have to go is google Life of Josephus Flavius pdf”

His major works are his account of the Jewish revolt (The Jewish War) and a complete history of God’s people from creation to the first century (Antiquities of the Jews). Obviously he had access to Biblical text in Jerusalem or elsewhere. He couldn’t be giving firsthand information since he was born in AD 38. This work reads like a creative paraphrasing of the narratives of the Old Testament and much of the earlier new testament. For all his efforts this work is a cavalcade of errors and misinformation

Eusebius, the first church historian, calls Josephus Flavius “the most famous Jew of his time”  This is interesting because if Flavius Josephus died in AD 100, then how did Eusebius write about him as if they were contemporary. Eusebius was born 263 A.D! The 1544 Greek edition appeared to be the basis of the 1732 English translation by William Whiston. This achieved enormous popularity in the English-speaking world. It was often the book, second only to the Bible, that Christians most frequently owned. For two millennia Christian scholars have preserved and studied Josephus’s works, especially clergy often incorporate details from Josephus works in their sermons just as if it is coming from the pages of Biblical text

Quotes from Flavius

CHAPTER 4. Concerning The Tower Of Babylon, And The Confusion Of Tongues

1. Now the sons of Noah were three, – Shem, Japhet, and Ham, born one hundred years before the Deluge. These first of all descended from the mountains into the plains, and fixed their habitation there; and persuaded others who were greatly afraid of the lower grounds on account of the flood, and so were very loath to come down from the higher places, to venture to follow their examples. Now the plain in which they first dwelt  was called Shinar

There you have it. Shem the oldest, Japhet the second and the youngest son Ham!. You will see below that corroborate that he means it in that order. Compare the two and see that Flavius thinks the youngest son is Ham. But he had to offer an alibi as to why Canaan was cursed instead of Ham

CHAPTER 6. How Every Nation Was Denominated From Their First Inhabitants.

3. Noah, when, after the deluge, the earth was resettled in its former condition, set about its cultivation; and when he had planted it with vines, and when the fruit was ripe, and he had gathered the grapes in their season, and the wine was ready for use, he offered sacrifice, and feasted, and, being drunk, he fell asleep, and lay naked in an unseemly manner. When his youngest son saw this, he came laughing, and showed him to his brethren; but they covered their father’s nakedness. And when Noah was made sensible of what had been done, he prayed for prosperity to his other sons; but for Ham, he did not curse him, by reason of his nearness in blood, but cursed his prosperity: and when the rest of them escaped that curse, God inflicted it on the children of Canaan.

I wish to make a quick point before I end this section. Although I wished to cover these points in a different essay, these errors and stupidity of Josephus, just jumps up into your face. It is hard to ignore them.  Let us take another look at the passage above:

Did he just say that there were other people who survived the flood, living up in mountains??. The Bible said the flood covered the highest mountains.  And also it says in

(Gen 10:32)  These are the tribes of the sons of Noah, according to their generations, according to their nations. From these were scattered islands of the nations upon the earth after the flood.

(Gen 9:18)  And these were the sons of Noah, the ones coming forth from the ark, Shem, Ham, Japheth. And Ham was father of Canaan.

(Gen 9:19These three are the sons of Noah. From these, men were disseminated upon all the earth.

(Gen 10:32)  These are the tribes of the sons of Noah, according to their generations, according to their nations. From these were scattered islands of the nations upon the earth after the flood

So where did these people come from who were living in the mountains together with Shem, Ham, and Japhet?

Please take a look at another one that is even more startling!

CHAPTER 6. How Every Nation Was Denominated From Their First Inhabitants.

4. Shem, the third son of Noah, had five sons, who inhabited the land that began at Euphrates, and reached to the Indian Ocean. For Elam left behind him the Elamites, the ancestors of the Persians. Ashur lived at the city Nineve; and named his subjects Assyrians, who became the most fortunate nation, beyond others. Arphaxad named the Arphaxadites, who are now called Chaldeans. Aram had the Aramites, which the Greeks called Syrians; as Laud founded the Laudites, which are now called Lydians.

These are not sons of Shem. They are sons of Ham:

Gen 10:6  And the sons of Ham — Cush, and Mizraim, Phut, and Canaan

Gen 10:7  And the sons of Cush — Seba and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah. And the sons of Raamah – Sheba and Dedan.

Gen 10:8  And Cush procreated Nimrod. This one began to be a giant upon the earth.

Gen 10:9  This one was a giant hunter with hounds before the LORD God. On account of this they shall say, As Nimrod a giant hunter with hounds before the LORD.

Gen 10:10  And came to pass the beginning of his kingdom — Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

Gen 10:11  From out of that land came forth Assyria. And he built Nineveh, also in the midst of Calah —

These are the great Assyrian who gave so much headache to Israel. They are Hamites

He is obviously mixing them up with the Asshur of Shem. This one went out of history early and was never heard from again. This mix-up may be attributed to the KJV translation which uses the same word for both.

Gen 10:22  Sons of Shem — Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram, and Cainan.

Gen 10:23  And the sons of Aram — Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

If this man was an Israelite, then how would he not know the difference between the two. This man claimed that the high priests and principal men of the city came frequently to him together, in order to know his opinion about the accurate understanding of points of the law”. Let’s stick a fork in this one.

This man is an Edomite, the nemesis of the Israelites. They are always taking on the identity of us. Yes he claimed to be a pharisees. Did you know that most of the Pharisees in Jesus day were Edomites? Don’t want to go too much off topic, I will show you that in a later essay

Japhet, Shem, and Ham

Then there is the groups of theologians who teach that the order of birth as Japhet, Shem and Ham the youngest. We already see where they got Ham to be the youngest. But these have made a new twist by naming Japhet as the oldest. Let us investigate how this one originated. In other words, we will see how GOD made them see and not see at the same time.

We read in chapter 10 that GOD is listing the descendants of the three sons of Noah, Shem, Ham and Japhet. As you can see above that whenever GOD discusses them together, HE does it in order of their birth. But in this the 10th chapter, he starts with Japheth, the one HE lists as the youngest of the three and going upward to the oldest. If you are not yet aware of the principle GOD is teaching here then I will have to show you when we get to it.

The following are the descendants of Japheth

Gen 10:1-5

1  And these are the generations of the sons of Noah — Shem, Ham, Japheth. And were born to them sons after the flood.

2  The sons of Japheth — Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

3  And the sons of Gomer — Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.

4  And the sons of Javan — Elisha, and Tarshish, Kittim, Dodanim.

5  From out of these were separated islands of the nations in their land, each according to tongue, among their tribes, and among their nations.

So GOD list the descendants of Japhet and end in verse 5 where HE describe where they initially abode on the face of the earth. GOD in now finished with Japhet.

The Following are the descendants of  the middle son Ham.

Gen 10:6-20

6  And the sons of Ham — Cush, and Mizraim, Phut, and Canaan.

7  And the sons of Cush — Seba and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah. And the sons of Raamah – Sheba and Dedan.

8  And Cush procreated Nimrod. This one began to be a giant upon the earth.

9  This one was a giant hunter with hounds before the LORD God. On account of this they shall say, As Nimrod a giant hunter with hounds before the LORD.

10  And came to pass the beginning of his kingdom — Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

11  From out of that land came forth Assyria. And he built Nineveh, also in the midst of Calah —

12  this is the great city.

13  And Mizraim procreated the Ludim, and the Naphtuhim, and the Anamim, and the Lehabim,

14  and the Pathrusim and the Casluhim, from where came forth the Philistines, and the Caphtorim.

15  And Canaan procreated Sidon the first-born,

16  and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite, and the Hivite, and the Arkite,

17  and the Sinite,

18  the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite, and after these were scattered the tribes of the Canaanites.

19  And the boundaries of the Canaanites were from Sidon unto the coming into Gerar and Gaza, unto the coming unto Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboim, unto Lasha.

20  These are the sons of Ham among their tribes, according to their languages, among their regions, and among their nations.

Wow! I don’t intend to go off topic here, so I will mention this in passing. Did anyone notice anything here?  The Japhet descendants on took up 125 words, 11 lines and 540 characters. But the Hamite description is 264 words long, 1,164 characters and 24 lines.  Even more interesting is the fact that many of the Hamite names have been identified with great kingdoms and empires by white archeologists.: Mizraim (Egypt), Babel, Assyria, Sidon, Nineveh, Philistines, Hittite “And Cush procreated Nimrod. This one began to be a giant upon the earth.” Yes, Ham is associated with great Kingdoms and empires. The only recognized Japhetite is the Ashkenaz, but not a single great kingdom or empire came of him.  Even when I was a teenager a couple of decades ago, I use to read these white books, of which some are associated with Christian groups that asserts that the black skinned people of Africa are Hamites and it is the curse that is responsible for the color of their skin. Obviously they were mixing both Semite and Hamite together. But something changed.  During the early 60s the white archeologist found out that the greatest empires ever on this planet was from the sons of Ham. So now they realize that white superiority has sprung a serious leak. Then was born the theory called the “white Hamite Hypothesis” It was quickly shot down by their own peers. But I must move on in this lesson. I will expand on this in another topic. You can google “white Hamite Hypothesis” and see what that was all about.

The Following are the descendants of  the oldest son Shem.

Gen 10:21-32

21  And to Shem was born, even to him, the father of all the sons of Eber, brother of Japheth the greater.

22  Sons of Shem –Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram, and Cainan.

23  And the sons of Aram — Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

24  And Arphaxad procreated Cainan; and Cainan procreated Salah; and Salah procreatd Eber.

25  And to Eber were born two sons, the name given to the one was Peleg; for in his days the earth was divided into parts; and the name of his brother was Joktan.

26  And Joktan procreated Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah

27  and Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,

28  and Obal and Abimael Sheba,

29  and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.

30  And their dwelling was from Mesha unto the coming into Sephar, a mountain of the east.

31  These are the sons of Shem among their tribes, according to their languages, among their regions, and among their nations.

Verse 21 is where these theologians and writer stumble. And it looks like GOD this intentionally! Read it one more time…slowly… And to Shem was born, even to him, the father of all the sons of Eber, brother of Japheth the greater. The key here is to remember that  GOD had already dwelt with Japheth. This is talking about Shem. So when it says the elder it is referring to Shem, NOT Japheth. You see the problem here? GOD is referring/identifying Shem. He is the father of all the sons of Eber. Is he not? He is also the brother to Japheth(as well as Ham) But on the other hand, here is the question you must ask.  is Japhet the father of the sons of Eber.?NO! So GOD is NOT referring to Japhet. HE is referring to Shem as the elder.

I chose not to mention it before in this study, but a very important principle in Bible day and most societies is that the firstborn is the one entitled to the blessing. You can see that played out here. Shem was the line that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob(Israel)  down to the Messiah.  They did not come through Japheth as you can clearly see

Quotes from The Book of Jasher

Jasher Chapter 7

1. And these are the names of the sons of Noah: Japheth, Ham and Shem; and children were born to them after the flood, for they had taken wives before the flood.

The genealogy here is probably trying to mirror (1Ch_1:4)  Noah, Shem, Ham, Japheth. It starts out with Noah which is correct. Then it list Japheth as his oldest son. They obviously come to this conclusion by totally misunderstanding

Gen. 10 21  And to Shem was born, even to him, the father of all the sons of Eber, brother of Japheth the greater. (Note: that I am using the Apostolic Bible Polyglot for translation. But I also reference the KJV and the Brenton bible). In both the KJV and the Brenton, the word used in this passage is “eldest”. This same word H1419 is used 6 times (Gen_27:1, Gen_27:15, Gen_44:12, 1Sa_17:13-14 (2), 1Sa_17:28). In 1Sa_17: 28 referring to David “and Eliab his older brother heard in his speaking”.  But in 1Sa_17:13 states:  “And the three elder sons of Jesse went after Saul unto the war. And the name of his sons, of the ones having gone unto the war — Eliab his first-born, and the second Abinadab, and the third Shammah.” The three sons mentioned above that went to war with Saul were older than David, but the passage also confirms that the eldest (first born of Jesse) is Eliab. This proves that the meaning of the word in this context is “eldest”. This word Hebrew H1419 correspond to the Greek (Greater/greatest G3173) in years. Shem is the greatest in years. He must be because he is the line through which the blessing come from. Quote from The treasury of Scriptural Knowledge: “Shem: Shem signifies name or renown; and his, indeed, was great both in a temporal and spiritual sense, inasmuch as he was destined to be the lineal ancestor of the promised Seed of the woman, to which Noah might allude in his pious ejaculation, Gen_9:26.” Sorry for the word used but if I quote them I must use all the word they used. But I think Edomites constantly have sex on their mind. In conclusion, if these people know that Shem must be the oldest of the brothers, then how is it that the book of Jasher doesn’t know that. Israelites, you should keep away from these Apocrypha books. They have no truth in them. They were written by mere men-Edomites!

Jasher Chapter 5

17. And Naamah conceived and bare a son, and he called his name Japheth, saying, God has enlarged me in the earth; and she conceived again and bare a son, and he called his name Shem, saying, God has made me a remnant, to raise up seed in the midst of the earth.

This is just confirming the above, that they erroneously believe Japhet was the eldest.

18. And Noah was five hundred and two years old when Naamah bare Shem, and the boys grew up and went in the ways of the Lord, in all that Methuselah and Noah their father taught them.

And here they also confirm the erroneous belief that Shem was the second and obviously Ham, they believe must be the youngest

Ham, Shem and Japhet

As ridiculous as it may seem, there is yet another strange twist on the chronology of the sons of Noah. That say that Ham is the older, then Shem and Japheth the younger of the three. The main proponent of this error was a man called Harold Camping.

Harold Camping

Harold Camping (July 19, 1921 – December 15, 2013) was an American Christian radio broadcaster, author and evangelist. He is notable for issuing a succession of failed predictions of End Times dates. His first prediction was that Judgment Day would occur on September 6, 1994. This didn’t happen so he revised the date to September 29 and then to October 2 of 2005. Well that didn’t happen either. And then for a while he ceased making predictions apparently and continued his role as radio personality and Bible teacher. He had a call-in show which invited listeners to call in and get answers for their questions related to the Bible. During this time, I got familiar with the station and his ministry. I used to listen intently, hardy ever missing a broadcast. He seemed to have some good solid teachings which impressed me, but now in retrospect he had some very bad ones. I remember Camping asserting to callers that the people living in the middle east of Biblical times are the same people there today, although the Bible says otherwise. He also thinks that the Ashkenazi people from Europe, living there today are the Biblical Israelites.  He believes the black people brought from Africa to slavery in the Americas are just black people…gentiles.  He is a firm believer in the replacement theology gospel-that the Israel of the Bible no longer exist but was warped into or replaced by Christians over time. All this coming from a man with a degree in civil engineering and who had studied the bible longer than I was on the earth at the time. But things only got worse. Camping next predicted the Second Coming of Christ to May 21, 2011. But May 21 passed without that happening. Camping alibi was he believed that a “spiritual” judgment had occurred on that date, but the actual physical Rapture would take place on October 21st .  During the time leading up to October 21st he suffered a stroke in June 2011, which apparently did not predict.  October 21st  2011 did pass and his predictions totally failed. Camping was the author of several books: “1994”; “Time Has an End : A Biblical History of the World 11,013 B. C. – 2011 A. D”; “The 70 Weeks of Daniel 9”; “First Principles of Bible Study”; “Sunday: The Sabbath”; “What God Hath Joined Together” and “Adam When? A Biblical Solution to the Timetable of Mankind” This book Adam When? Was the only one I managed to read  completely, twice. I believe it has some good solid teaching especially its critique of evolution. But I guess I should invoke an old Jamaican proverb. ‘if it no go so, it go near so.’ It usually means if it is not the truth it’s pretty close to it. But this would apply to the book only, because when Camping gets to the chronology of the sons of Noah it was plainly NOT so.

On page 46 of the book “Adam When” he writes the following:

“We find that in Genesis 5:32 declares that Noah was 500 years old when he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, yet in the 10th verse of Genesis 11 we are told that when ‘Shem was a hundred years old, he became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood’”

He further reason that “Since Noah was 600 years old at the time of the flood, Shem must have been born when Noah was 502. And since Genesis 10:21 refers to Shem, the older brother of Japheth, we can know that Japheth was born when Noah was more than 502 years old.”

And so, he further concludes:

“Thus, Ham must have been born when Noah was 500  as the oldest of the three sons. We may, therefore, reasonably conclude that Shem was born when his father was 502…Again, as in Abram’s case Shem’s name probably appears first in Bible record because of his place in GOD’s plan”

Camping may not be the only one with this idea because I have run into it from other writers/theologists. Well this may sound reasonable to Camping and others, but it is totally false. But remember the Bible precept that I expounded at the beginning of this study:  (Matthew 13:-14-14) On account of this I speak to them in parables. For seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor perceive. These people is staring at the answer and cannot see it.  But before we do a study on the verses Camping mentioned above, let me remind you of something else very pertinent that Camping also said: In Chapter one, page eight of this book camping declares, and I quote:

“Whenever we have to force a verse or struggle with a verse to make it fit into our idea of what the Word says or will allow, we are on dangerous ground”

That is a perfect principle of Bible study. That is why I can say that he sometimes he seemed to have some good solid teachings which impressed me. But if he really believes what he said about the principle of good Bible study, then why did he try to fit Ham into the first-born position, when he knows that Shem’s as the first on the chronology is because of his place in GOD’s plan. The right of the first born.

But now let us look more closely at the verses that Camping quoted above to see why he got it so mixed up when the answer was staring him right in the face all the time. I will compare two Bible “translations” to make this clearer.

(KJV+ 32)  And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth

Obviously you will not be going too far with this translation. You see they have already done their private interpretation.

(ABP+ 32)  And Noah was five hundred years (old) and he procreated three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

This is the Apostolic Bible Polyglot. Notice that it has “old” in italics. What that means is that the word was not in the original manuscript that they got the verse from. They are putting it their to be more readable to the English readers. They probably think it mean Noah was 500 years old, but that is beside the point. They are careful to let you know that word did not belong there.  Now let us read it again without the Italicizes word: “And Noah was five hundred years and he procreated three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth”. Not much clearer at this point. But one thing we are sure of is that it doesn’t say that (when)Noah was 500 years old he procreated, Shem Ham, and Japheth. There is no indication that the brothers are triplet. Now let us examine the two verbs in the sentence ( procreated, was). Procreated can only mean that Noah became the father of the three. One clue is that the 500 may not have anything to his age when he procreated the boys. The Greek word G1080 means bear, beget, engender, bring forth, etc., but the verb “was” G1510 seems to shed more light. This particular word G1510 can be used in a variety of ways, including “sojourned” as in (Act_7:6)  And God thus spoke, that his seed will beG1510.8.3 a sojournerG3941 in an alien land, and they shall enslave it, and inflict evil for four hundred years. You can basically look at this passage as having two parts. (first)Noah sojourned/lived 500 years. (second) he procreated three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They don’t bear any relationship with each other. The two parts are independent of each other in the context of determining birthdates of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. This is how Camping, et al. runs into a problem. By thinking GOD is saying that when Noah was 500 years old he fathered Shem. Alternately you could say that Noah didn’t start procreating sons until after he was 500 years. No sons when he was 499, or 500 years old. but he would start procreating at 501, 502, 503, etc.

Now lets sort out the consternation that Camping et al., is having. Let look at the second verse he mentions to sort out his consternation.

Gen 11:10  And these are the generations of Shem. And Shem was a hundred years (old) when he procreated Arphaxad, the second year after the flood.

We already learned these facts from the Bible, that the flood started in the 600 year of Noah’s life. (Gen 7:6)  And Noah was six hundred years old, and the flood of the water came upon the earth.

This is the facts we gather from Gen 11:10 above:

Shem procreated Arphaxad when he was 100 years. Arphaxad was born 2 years after the flood when Noah was 600 years old. Therefore, Noah would be 602 years old himself when Arphaxad was born.  If the end of the flood was Noah 600th birthday, then it would be Shem’s 98 birthday. If Noah was 600 years old when Shem was 98 years old, then Shem would have to be born when Noah was 502 years old. As you can see from that deduction that Camping was correct that Noah procreated Shem when he was 502.

Then he read Gen 5:32 and assumed that Noah started procreating when he was 500 years, then he invokes Gen 10:21 to show that Shem was indeed Japhet’s older brother (which is also correct) he now has nowhere to go but to make Ham the oldest brother. To his idea, Ham had to be born before Noah’s 502nd  birthday. The most convenient date to him was Noah’s 500th (birthday) because he thinks that is what he read in Gen 5:32

These are all theories, devised by man because they have eyes to see, but GOD is blinding them to the truth. And it could get worse. (Matthew 13: 12) For whosoever has, it shall be given to him, and he shall abound; but whosoever does not have, even what he has shall be lifted from him.
