Solomon is a picture of the unsaved Israelites

Solomon is a picture of the unsaved Israelites

We will learn from this study is that Solomon is an unsaved man. He never inherited the Kingdom of GOD. As Israelite, we should learn from the life of Solomon. We must not make the same mistakes that he did. We should learn what GOD desires of us,—absolute obedience; full trust; and to worship HIM in spirit and in truth.

Solomon’s false theology that is not unlike the false thinking of the so-called Hebrew Israelites of today:  The backdrop to this story is about a man called Shimei who King David had given instruction to the young king Solomon to eliminate. Solomon is speaking to him after he disobeyed him to not leave Jerusalem. He is about to declare judgment of death on him.

1Ki_2:44-45  And the king said to Shimei, you know all your evil which your heart knows, which you did to David my father, and the LORD recompensed your evil on your head. And king Solomon is being blessed, and the throne of David will be prepared before the LORD into the eon.

Obviously this was assessment was deadly  incorrect. The throne of David did not continue in the land through the ages into eternity. Today all Israel was dispersed all over the world and Solomon line had discontinued for millennium and none can trace their line today to Solomon

Solomon’s wrong beliefs are not uncommon among the so-called “Hebrews Israelites” of today The prevailing view of Bible prophecy is that GOD has an obligation to them because of them being Israelites and at some point HE will appear and scoop them up and deliver them to the political state that occupies the land that is now called Israel. This is part of an erroneous interpretations. (But I must stick to this subject for now)  These same people  do not give any thought to knowing or seeking GOD with all their heart and soul…as HE so lovingly commanded us for these times. Some of them setup themselves as teachers and prophets on YouTube and the internet, but they have never given a thought to a changed life or heart.  They lust,  are adulterers, greedy,  they curse, they are liars, and teach rebellion. You who are coming into the fold in these times could do well by looking at the life of Solomon, seeing where he went wrong so you too can turn and live.

(Eze_33:11)  Say to them! As I live, says Adonai the LORD, I do not want the death of the impious, but as for  the impious to turn from his way, and for him to live. By turning you turn from your evil way! For why do you die, O house of Israel?

Who is Solomon?

Solomon was the tenth son of King David and the second son of Bathsheba.  He was born shortly after David starts his reign (1011 BC-1005 BC). At some point it is apparent that he was co-regent with his father David. Most scholars believe Solomon ruled over Israel from when he was 20 years old.  Evidence from the Bible shows that he was a young man when he began to reign, but no concrete evidence of date of birth. He reigned by himself between 971 BCE when his father died and 931 BCE the year of his death., making his reign 40 years.

(1Ki_11:42)  And the days which Solomon reigned in Jerusalem was forty years over all Israel. So, he would have died when he was 60 years old of natural causes

According to the Talmud, Solomon is one of the 48 prophets. In the Quran, he is considered a major prophet, and Muslims generally refer to him by the Arabic language as Suleman, son of David. In secular sources he has been revered for building the temple in Jerusalem, one of the greatest archeological wonders of ancient times. He is often associated with wisdom; “as wise as Solomon”.

Solomon’s kingdom was extensive, and he was wealthy and powerful beyond measure

King Solomon ruled over an extensive empire. At its apex, Solomon kingdom included many other kingdom states which they conquered, including some conquered countries, like, Edom, Moab, Ammon and Syria. It had some allied states such as Sidonia and Tyre. Vassal kingdoms like the Philistines, Hamath and Hittite states all the way up to the Euphrates river. GOD gave him great wisdom and the understanding and wealth, and possessions, and glory. According to the LORD this would far exceed any kings before him and any that came after him.

2 CH_1: 11-12  And God said to Solomon, Because this happened in your heart, and you did not ask wealth of things, nor glory, nor the life of the ones detesting you, and you did not ask for many days; but you asked for yourself wisdom and understanding, so as to judge my people, over whom I gave you to reign over it –the wisdom and the understanding I give to you; and wealth, and possessions, and glory I shall give to you, as did not happen likened unto you among the kings before you, and it will not be thus after you.

And as the verses below shows, GOD was true to HIS word:

2 Ch 1:15  And the king established silver and gold in Jerusalem as the stones; and the cedars in Judea as sycamine trees, the ones in the plains in multitude.

1Ki_4:29  And the LORD gave intellect to Solomon and exceedingly great wisdom, and an increase in heart, as the sand by the sea.

1Ki_10:21  And all the vessels, the ones used by Solomon, were of gold. And bathing tubs of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were completely of gold. And there was no silver, for it was not thought anything  in the days of Solomon

1Ki_10:14  And was the weight of the gold that came to Solomon in one year– six hundred sixty and six talents of gold

1Ki_10:23  And Solomon was magnified above all the kings of the earth in riches and intellect.

1Ki_4:34  And all the peoples came to him to hear the wisdom of Solomon. And he took gifts from all the kings of the earth, as many as heard his wisdom.

(1Ki_4:30)  And Solomon multiplied exceedingly over the intellect of all the ancient men, and above all the intelligent ones of Egypt.

1Ki_10:24  And all the kings of the earth sought the face of Solomon to hear of his intellect, which the LORD put in his heart.

This was the very best of times for Israel since we came up out of Egypt. Solomon gave us the longest period of peace and prosperity we ever knew through our entire history

1Ki_4:25  And Judah and Israel dwelt being yielded each in his grapevine and under his fig-tree, from Dan and unto Beer-Sheba, all the days of Solomon.

So, what really happened? Solomon kingdom never lasted through the ages as GOD has promised. The promises of GOD were conditional. Solomon never meet these conditions. Israel was turned out of their land a couple of centuries later. First with the Northern tribes by Assyria and completed with the southern tribes in AD 70. Why are we scattered among all the nations of the world and are always at the bottom of the social ladder wherever we are found. We were enslaved again and abused by the gentiles. Today we serve all the false religions of the world. We lost our identity and our enslavers tell us that we are gentiles. While they assume our identity. Solomon was what happened!

To get a perspective of how we stumbled into this predicament, we must go far back in our history. After the tribes came out of Egypt, they wandered into to wilderness for many years but at some point in time they were to enter into the promised land (Canaan). To prepare them for nationhood, GOD commissioned laws for them.  Their success as a nation was dependent on obeying these commandments perfectly. These laws would set them apart from other nations around them and everywhere on the earth. One of the most important commandments was  (Exo 20:3)  There shall not be to you other gods besides me. Because all the gods of the nations are idols(1Ch_16:26) For all the gods of the nations are idols; and the LORD made the heavens. These gods were themselves made with the hands of their worshippers. Israel’s GOD was the real GOD, the One who made the heavens and earth. Israel was to serve to the GOD of Israel only. They should note that HE is a holy GOD and a GOD of judgment This was to be followed by all their generation into eternity..

GOD commands Israel not to worship other gods

This is a very detailed commandment concerning worshipping the GOD of Israel and not any other gods. The verses show that there  can be no ambiguity.

Exo 20:2  I am the LORD your God, the one leading you from the land of Egypt, from out of the house of slavery.

Exo 20:3  There shall not be to you other gods besides me.

Exo 20:4  You shall not make to yourself an idol, nor any representation, as much as in the heaven upward, nor as much as in the earth below, nor as much as in the waters underneath the earth.

Exo 20:5  You shall not do obeisance to them, nor shall you serve to them. For I am LORD your God, a jealous God, rendering sins of fathers upon children unto third and fourth generation to the detesting me;

GOD further commands them when they enter the land of Canaan HE was giving that they were to go beyond not worshipping the gods of the peoples, but they should destroy them wherever they are:

Deu_7:16  And you shall eat all the spoils of the nations which the LORD your God gives to you; you shall not spare your eye over them; and no way should you serve to their gods; for this shall be an impediment to you.

Deu_12:2  By destruction you shall destroy all the places in which the nations serve there their gods, whose lands you shall inherit them upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and underneath every bushy tree.

Deu_12:30  take heed to yourself! you should not seek to follow them after their being utterly destroyed from your face. In no way should you seek after their gods, saying, How these nations act with their gods I also shall act.

Deu_13:7  of the gods of the nations surrounding you, of the ones near to you, or of the ones far from you, from the uttermost part of the earth, unto the uttermost part of the earth;

This is how serious GOD enforce HIS word:

Let us see from GOD’s perspective how serious this commandment is and the consequences that would happen if its not followed perfectly. This is GOD speaking of possible scenario  and consequences of disobeying this commandment. This one involving your dearest loved ones

Deu 13:1  And if there should rise up among you a prophet or one dreaming dreams, and he should give to you a sign or miracle,

Deu 13:2  and it should come to pass — the sign or the miracle which he spoke to you, saying, We should go and serve other gods who we do not know.

Deu 13:3  You shall not hearken to the words of that prophet, or the one dreaming that dream; for the LORD your God tests you, to know, if you love the LORD your God from your entire heart and from your entire soul.

Deu 13:4  You shall go after the LORD your God, and him you shall fear, and his commandments you shall keep, and his voice you shall hearken to, and to him you shall serve, and to him you shall be added to.

Deu 13:And that prophet, or that one dreaming the dream shall die; for he spoke to cause you to wander from the LORD your God (the one leading you from the land of Egypt, ransoming you from slavery) to push you from the way of which the LORD your God gave charge to you to go by it. And you shall remove their wicked thing from you.

Deu 13:6  But if there should enjoin you, your brother from your father, or from your mother, or of your son, or of your daughter, or of your wife, or one in your bosom, or your equal friend to your soul, in private saying, We should go and should serve other gods which neither you nor your fathers know,

Deu 13:7  of the gods of the nations surrounding you, of the ones near to you, or of the ones far from you, from the uttermost part of the earth, unto the uttermost part of the earth;

Deu 13:8  you shall not acquiesce to him, and you shall not hear him, and you shall not spare your eye upon him, and you shall not show mercy upon him, nor shall you shelter him.

Deu 13:9  Announcing, you shall announce concerning him, and your hand shall be upon him as first to kill him, and the hand of all the people upon him last.

Deu 13:10  And they shall throw stones at him with stones, and he shall die; for he sought to abstain you from the LORD your God, the one leading you from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

Deu 13:11  And all Israel hearing, shall fear, and shall not add to do again according to this wicked matter among you.

Deu 13:12  And if it should be heard in one of your cities, which the LORD your God gives to you for you to dwell there, saying,

Deu 13:13  Men lawbreakers came forth from you, and left all the ones dwelling in their city, saying, We should go and serve other gods, which you did not know;

Deu 13:14  then you shall examine, and shall ask, and shall search exceedingly; and behold, if the word true be clearly that this abomination has taken place among you;

Deu 13:15  then by doing away with, you shall do away with all the ones dwelling in that city by carnage of the sword; under anathema you shall devote it to consumption, and all the things in it, and all its cattle by the mouth of the sword.

Yes Israel, that is what it is saying—you should snitch on your loved ones. Your hands should be first on him to destroy him or her. The above passages could not say it any plainer. GOD is first in your life. Even if you hear any rumors about your neighbors worshipping any gods other than the GOD of Israel, you should ferret out the culprits and kill them. Yes Israel, the consequences of worshipping other gods are stark for the individuals.

Blessings for obedience

Deu 28:1  If in hearing you should hear the voice of the LORD your God to guard and to observe all his commandments which I give charge to you today, then the LORD your God shall appoint you above all the nations of the earth,

Deu 28:2  then all these blessings shall come upon you, and they shall find you if in hearing you should listen to the voice of the LORD your God.

Deu 28:3  Being blessed are you in the city, and being blessed are you in the field.

Deu 28:4  Being blessed are the progeny of your belly, and the produce of your land, and the herds of your oxen, and the flocks of your sheep.

Deu 28:7  The LORD your God shall deliver up your enemies opposing you by breaking them before your face; in one way they shall come forth against you, and in seven ways they will flee from your face.

Deu 28:8  May the LORD send upon you the blessing among your storerooms, and on all what ever you should put your hand. And he will bless you upon the land of which the LORD  your God gives to you.

Deu 28:9  May The LORD your God raise you up for himself as a holy people, in which manner he swore by an oat to your fathers, if you should hearken to the voice of the LORD your God, and should go in his ways.

Deu 28:10  And all the nations of the earth shall see you, that the name of the LORD is called upon by you, and they shall fear you.

Deu 28:11  And the LORD your God shall multiply you for good things upon the progeny of your belly, and upon the progeny of your cattle, and upon the produce of your ground, upon the land which the LORD swore by an oath to your fathers to give to you.

Deu 28:12  May the LORD open to you his good treasury, the heaven, to give the rain to your land in its season; to bless all the works of your hands; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; and you shall yourself rule many nations, but they shall not rule you.

Deu 28:13  May the LORD your God place you as head, and not as the tail; and you will be then above, and you will not be underneath, if you should hearken to the commandments of the LORD your God, as many as I give charge to you today, to guard and to observe.

The consequences of disobedience

For not obeying GOD’s commandments, the repercussion reached into the ages, thousands of years later. The following discourse lays out the stark consequences if Israel should not obey GOD’s commandments.

Deu 28:14  You shall not transgress from all the words which I give charge to you today, to the right or to the left, to go after other gods, to serve them.

Deu 28:15  And it shall be if you should not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to guard and to observe all his commandments, as many as I give charge to you today, then shall come upon you all these curses, and they shall overtake you.

Deu 28:21  May the LORD cleave the plague to you until whenever he should completely consume you from the land into which you enter there to inherit it.

Deu 28:25  May the LORD appoint you for slaughter before your enemies. In one way you shall go forth against them, and in seven ways you shall flee from their face. And you will be in dispersion among all kingdoms of the earth.

Deu 28:30  You shall take a wife, and another man shall have her. You shall build a house, and you shall not live in it. You shall plant a vineyard, and in no way shall you gather its vintage.

Deu 28:32  Your sons and your daughters will be given to another nation, and your eyes shall see being inflamed over them. And your hand shall not be strong.

Deu 28:33  The resources of your land, and all the things of your toils a nation shall eat which you have no knowledge of; and you will be injured and devastated all the days.

Deu 28:36  May the LORD take you and your rulers, whom ever you should place over yourself, by a nation who you have no knowledge of yourself nor your fathers; and you shall serve there other gods of wood and stone.

Deu 28:37  And you will be there for an enigma, and a parable, and a tale, in all the nations into which ever the LORD should take you there.

Deu 28:41  Sons and daughters you shall bear, but they shall not be yours, for they shall go forth in captivity.

Deu 28:43  The foreigner who is among you shall ascend over you upward and upward; but you shall go down lower and lower.

Deu 28:44  This one shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to this one; this one will be for the head, and you will be for the tail.

Deu 28:45  And all these curses shall come upon you, and they shall pursue you, and overtake you, until whenever they shall utterly destroy you, and until whenever they shall consume you. For you did not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to guard his commandments, and his ordinances, as many as I gave charge to you.

Deu 28:48  And you shall serve your enemies whom the LORD shall send as a successor over you in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things. And he shall put a collar of iron upon your neck, until whenever he should utterly destroy you.

Deu 28:49  The LORD shall bring upon you a nation far off from the end of the earth, as the impulse of an eagle, a nation of which you will not hear its voice;

Deu 28:50  a nation impudent in its face who will not admire the face of an old man, and will not show mercy for the young.

Deu 28:51  And it will devour the progeny of your cattle, and the produce of your land, so as to not leave behind for you grain, wine, olive oil, herds of your oxen, and the flocks of your sheep, until whenever it should destroy you,

Deu 28:52  and should obliterate you in all your cities, until whenever your walls should be demolished, the high and the fortified ones upon which you rely upon them in all your land. And it shall afflict you in all your cities, which the LORD your God gave to you.

Deu 28:56  And the tender among you, and the exceedingly delicate one of whom has not taken an attempt with her foot to go upon the land because of the delicacy, and because of the tenderness — she shall charm with her eye her husband, the one near her bosom, and her son and daughter;

Deu 28:58  if you should not hearken to do all the discourses of this law, the ones being written in this scroll, to fear this wonderful and valued name — the LORD your God.

Deu 28:60  And he shall turn upon you all the grief of Egypt, the severe grief which you were on guard from in front of them, and they shall cleave to you.

Deu 28:61  And every infirmity, and every calamity not being written, and every one being written in this scroll of the law, the LORD shall bring upon you, until whenever he should utterly destroy you.

Deu 28:62  And you shall be left behind few in number for you were as the stars of the heaven in multitude, for you did not hearken to the voice of the LORD your God.

Deu 28:63  And it will be in the manner the LORD was glad over you, to do good for you, and to multiply you; so the LORD will be glad over you to utterly destroy you, and to lift you away from the land into which you enter there to inherit it.

Deu 28:64  And the LORD your God will disperse you into all the nations, from the tip of the earth, unto the other tip of the earth. And you shall slave there to other gods of wood and stone, which you have no knowledge of, nor your fathers.

Deu 28:65  But also in those nations he will not rest you, nor in any way will the sole of your foot become stationary. And the LORD will give to you there another heart being depressed, and failing eyes, and a melting soul.

Deu 28:66  And your life will be hanging before your eyes. And you shall have fear day and night, and not trust in your life.

Deu 28:68  And the LORD will return you unto Egypt in boats, and in the way which I said, You shall not proceed again to behold it. And you shall be sold there to your enemies for manservants and maidservants, and none shall be acquiring you.

God commands Israel not to mix nor marry gentiles

Most Bible commentators will readily admit to the prohibition of Israel not marrying gentiles, but it is clear from the following verses that GOD prohibits Israel from mixing with them also. From the above that this is referring to two types of infractions. Not only is Israel not to have marriage with gentiles, they must also not mix socially with them. Some may read and conclude that mixing with the Moabites and Ammonites are what in view about not mixing with non-Israelites. But Jos (23:12-13)  and (Deu 7:1-2). So, in conclusion an Israelite must not marry into the gentile blood nor should you mix with them socially. By the way it was not long after that they disobeyed. As soon as they got into the land of Canaan they ignored GOD’s commandments with the resulting problems that GOD had warned them earlier in Jos (23:13). This is exactly what happened to them in (Jdg 2:1-2). The nations that they failed to destroy and was mixing with are now terrorizing them.

Jos 23:11  But guard exceedingly your lives! to love the LORD your God.

Jos 23:12  For if you should turn away, and should proceed to leave behind these nations with you, and you should make connections by marriage with them, and mix together with them, and they with you.

Jos 23:13  knowledge know that in no way shall LORD your God proceed to utterly destroy these nations from your face. And they will be to you for snares, and for obstacles, and for nails in your heels, and for arrows in your eyes, until whenever you should destroy from this good land the LORD your God which gave to you.

Deu 7:1  And it will be in LORD your God bringing you into the land into which you enter there to inherit it, and he shall lift away great and numerous nations from your presence — the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and Canaanite, and Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite — seven great and numerous nations, even stronger than you.

Deu 7:2  And LORD your God shall deliver them into your hands, and you shall strike them. To extinction you shall remove them. You shall not ordain with them a covenant, nor in any way should you show mercy them;

Deu 7:3  nor contract a marriage with them. You shall not give your daughter his son, and his daughter you shall not take your son.

Deu 7:4  For your son will leave from me, and shall serve other gods, and the LORD shall be provoked to anger in rage against you, and shall utterly destroy you quickly.

Deu 23:3  Ammonite and Moabite shall not enter into assembly of LORD; even unto tenth generation he shall not enter into the assembly of LORD, even unto into the eon,

Deu 23:4  for reason of their not meeting with you with bread loaves and water in the way, of your going forth from Egypt; and that they hired against you Balaam son of Beor from out of Mesopotamia to curse you.

Neh 13:1  In that day read in scroll of Moses into ears of the people. And it was found written in it how that Ammonite and Moabite should not enter into assembly of God unto eon.

Neh 13:2  For they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and water, and they hired against them Balaam to curse them. And our God turned the curse into a blessing.

Neh 13:3  And it came to pass as they heard the law, that they separated all intermixed in Israel.

Jdg 2:1  And ascended an angel of the LORD from Gilgal, unto the Place of Weeping. And he said to them, The LORD transported you from Egypt, and brought you into the land which he swore by an oath to your fathers to give to you. And he said, I shall not efface my covenant with you into the eon.

Jdg 2:2  And you shall not ordain a covenant with the ones lying in wait in this land, nor in any way shall you do obeisance to their gods; but their carved idols break, and their altars raze! And you hearkened not to my voice, nor did you do these things

Solomon marries gentile women and formed political and social alignments with gentile nations

Thanks for your patience thus far, but we finally get to the man himself, Solomon. He may have started worshipping false gods when he was in his old age, but apparently the seed of apostasy was starting to germinate in Solomon at an early age. Read the following passage:

1Ki_14:21  And Rehoboam son of Solomon reigned over Judah. Rehoboam was a son being forty and one years old in his being given reign. And seventeen years he reigned in Jerusalem, in the city in which the LORD chose to put his name there from all of the tribes of Israel. And the name of his mother was Naamah the Ammonitess.

Yes Israel,  Solomon had Rehoboam when he was only 19 years old. his mother was Naamah the Ammonitess. Cannot tell if this was before he started reigning or afterwards.  At this point it doesn’t matter.  Because we read in the following verse that Solomon married the Daughter of the then ruling Pharaoh of Egypt. (1Ki_3:1)  And the kingdom solidified in the hand of Solomon. And Solomon contracted a marriage with Pharaoh king of Egypt. And he took the daughter of Pharaoh, and he brought her into the city of David, until he completed building his house, and the house of the LORD at first, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. Weren’t we commanded not to marry or socialize with non-Israelites?

Maybe he didn’t think GOD’s law applied to him. Not quite unlike some of these so-called Hebrew Israelites today who think they can get away with marrying foreign women. Haven’t you not read: (Lev_20:26)  And you will be holy to me, for I am holy, the LORD your God, the one separating you from all the nations, to be mine. (1Pe_1:16)  Because it has been written, Become holy, for I am holy!

Deu 7:1-4  And it will be in LORD your God bringing you into the land into which you enter there to inherit it, and he shall lift away great and numerous nations from your presence — the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and Canaanite, and Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite — seven great and numerous nations, even stronger than you. And LORD your God shall deliver them into your hands, and you shall strike them. To a extinction you shall remove them. You shall not ordain with them a covenant, nor in any way should you show mercy them; nor contract a marriage with them. You shall not give your daughter his son, and his daughter you shall not take your son. For your son will leave from me, and shall serve other gods, and LORD shall be provoked to anger in rage against you, and shall utterly destroy you quickly.

Some Israelites are reading this and saying. Ok, the Bible is clearly saying here that this commandment are for these seven nations that Israel was dispossessing from the land and we are not to intermarry or socialize with them.  The “Hittite, Girgashite, Amorite, Canaanite, Perizzite, Hivite and Jebusite”. But today we are free to intermarry into the nations as we please.  But not so fast—God was referring to these nations because these nations are the ones Israel was about to dispossess from their land and live in them. GOD know that if we did not destroy them fully and their idols fully, then Israel would start to intermarry and get infatuated with their gods and start serving them.

Notice GOD didn’t mention, Egypt, Moab, Ammon,  Edom,  and Sidonians.  But as we read later, Solomon married wives of the Egyptians, Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians. Was Israel ordered to exterminate them? Never! But we read in 1Kings 11:1 And king Solomon was fond of women, and he took alien wives, and the daughter of Pharaoh, and Moabitish, and Ammonitish, and Edomites, and Sidonians, and Hittites.

Solomon married these foreign wives in spite of GOD’s commandment to Israel. 1Ki_11:2  of the nations which the LORD forbade to the sons of Israel, saying, You shall not enter to them, and they shall not enter to you; that they should not turn aside  your hearts after their idols — for of them Solomon cleaved to love; Speaking of the Egypt, Moab, Ammon,  Edom,  and Sidonians. You also notice that these are the nations neighboring Israel. So GOD had no need to mention English, Spanish, Indian, Chinese, Greeks and Hispanics. I am sure Solomon would have married these if he would have gotten his hands on them!

I do not wish to be too tedious, but many Israelites are Hypocrite and liars and are seeking an alibi to mix with and intermarry with gentile people of the earth. So, let us examine the scriptures a little closer: Deu_7:6  For you are a holy people to the LORD your God. And the LORD your God preferred you to be to him a prized people from all the nations, as many as are upon the face of the earth.  We are set apart by GOD as HIS people.  The word for nations is expressed as the Greek G1484. In practically 99% of the times this word is used it means Gentiles, Heathen, nations or foreign non-Israelites. In other words, if you are not an Israelite, you’re are a heathen, gentile people. If you are a gentile , you are not an Israelite. There is only two people GOD acknowledge. Israel or gentiles (Actually Israel is a race. I will get into that in a separate study). If that being so then let us examine some more verses:

Psa 106:33  for they greatly embittered his spirit, and he drew apart with his lips.

Psa 106:34  They did not utterly destroy the nations which the LORD told to them.

Psa 106:35  And they mixed among the nations, and learned their works.

Psa 106:36  And they served their carvings, and it became to them for a cause of offence.

Psa 106:37  And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons;

I had to keep this one for last. For all those thinking that GOD was just talking about the Canaanite nations, then read this. So where is your alibi now!

(Deu_13:7)  of the gods of the nations surrounding you, of the ones near to you, or of the ones far from you, from the uttermost part of the earth, unto the uttermost part of the earth;

It is obvious that at some point Solomon began transgressing the laws of GOD. He clearly married gentile women and he formed political associations with gentile nations. Totally against the commandments of GOD.

Solomon offered sacrifices and burnt Incense on the high places

We do not know if the passages of 1 Kings_3 is in chronological order, if it was before GOD spoke with him or afterwards, but the following passage state that he did offer incense and burnt offerings on the high places. This particular one is in Gibeon. This was where tabernacle was pitched, and it was used as a temporary meeting place for Israel. They had built a huge altar close by. (1Ki_3:4)  And he rose up and went into Gibeon to sacrifice there, for it was highest and great. Solomon offered upon the altar in Gibeon a thousand whole burnt-offerings.

The practice of worshipping on high places (some of which inherited from the people of the land) was going on in Israel for a long time since they came into the land of Canaan. God had warned Israel not to do the kind of worship the Canaanites practiced. Num (33:51-52)  Speak to the sons of Israel! and you shall say to them, You pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan! And you shall destroy all the ones dwelling in the land before your face; and you shall lift away their sacred heights; and all their molten idols — you shall destroy them; and all their sacred monuments you shall lift away.   Because the temple was not yet built in Jerusalem for offering sacrifices,  commentators tend to think this was acceptable, probable because GOD didn’t send lightning bolts and burn them up. But it is clear by (1Ki_3:3)  And Solomon loved the LORD, to go in the orders of David his father; only he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places…..That this is sin. A transgression of GOD’s law.

Read (Deu 12:1-14) It will clearly state that sacrifices were only to me made in Jerusalem. (2Ki_23:27)  And the LORD said, And indeed Judah I shall remove from my face, as I removed Israel, and I will thrust away this city which I chose — Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name will be there. And all the high places and monuments of the nations should be razed. The Israelites even made their own high places(as well as used some of the ones abandoned by the fleeing gentiles) at Gibeon. So they even copied the gentile style of worship.

Deu 12:1  And these are the orders and the judgments, which you shall guard to do in the land of which the LORD the God of your fathers gives to you by lot, all the days of which you live upon the land

Deu 12:2  By destruction you shall destroy all the places in which the nations serve there their gods, whose lands you shall inherit them upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and underneath every bushy tree.

Deu 12:3  And you shall raze their shrines, and break their monuments; and you shall cut down their sacred groves; and the carvings of their gods you shall incinerate by fire; and you shall destroy their names from out of that place

Deu 12:4  You shall not do so with the LORD your God.

Deu 12:5  But in the place which ever the LORD your God should choose from all of your tribes to name his name there, and to be called upon — even you shall seek after and enter there.

Deu 12:6  And you shall bring there the whole burnt-offerings of yours, and your sacrifices, and your tenths, and your vow offerings, and your voluntary offerings, and your acknowledgment offerings, the first-born of your oxen, and of your sheep.

Deu 12:7  And you shall eat there before the LORD your God, and you shall be glad in all the things of which ever you should put your hands, you and your houses, in so far as the LORD your God blessed you.

Deu 12:8  You shall not do according to all as many as we do here today — each doing the pleasing thing before him.

Deu 12:9  For you have not come unto the present time for the rest and for the inheritance which the LORD our God gives you.

Deu 12:10  But you shall pass over the Jordan, and you shall dwell upon the land of which the LORD our God shall inherit to you; and he shall rest you from all your enemies round about; and you shall dwell with safety.

Deu 12:11  And there will be the place which ever the LORD your God should choose his name to be called upon there — there you shall bring all as many things as I give charge to you today; your whole burnt-offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the first-fruits of your hands, and every choice thing of your gifts, as many as you should vow to the LORD.

Deu 12:12  And you shall be glad before the LORD your God, you and your sons, and your daughters, and your manservants, and your maidservants, and the Levite at your gates; for there is not to him a portion nor lot with you.

Deu 12:13  Take heed to yourself that you should no offer of your whole burnt-offerings in any place of which ever you should behold,

Deu 12:14  but only in the place which the LORD your God should choose it, in one of your cities — there you shall offer your whole burnt-offerings, and there you shall do all as many things as I give charge to you today.

Solomon tried to kill Jeroboam

1Ki_11:40  And Solomon sought to put Jeroboam to death. And he rose up, and ran away unto Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt. And he was in Egypt until Solomon died.

Jeroboam was the man that GOD chose to give the ten northern tribes to. The two southern tribes would remain under the control of the Davidic dynasty. However, God planned to do it after Solomon was gone. Solomon tried to kill him when he learned of GOD’s plan. What a contrast to his father David! Remember when Saul was hunting David to kill him when he learned that David would one day be king? Saul was a wicked man who was striking out at GOD for rejecting him. David had several opportunities to retaliate and kill king Saul, but he chose not to do because he feared GOD. Now Solomon is trying to kill a man who GOD chose to replace him as head of ten of the tribes. He is striking out against GOD for rejecting him. Solomon is reputed to have written the Proverbs and other books. I think he did not write all.  But just imagine Proverbs 3 being written by Solomon. Either he is not living according to the commandments he has written down(ultimately GOD is the writer) but forgets GOD’s laws and has little regard for HIS instructions. He refuses correction and lashes out instead. Quite unlike a son of GOD! Did he not realize that length of existence and years of life (mentioned twice in this proverbs) are associated with these?.

Proverbs 3:1  O son, forget not my laws, and give heed to my sayings in your heart!

Proverbs 3:2  For the length of existence, and years of life and peace shall be added to you.

Proverbs 3:11  O son, do not have little regard for the instruction of the LORD, nor loosen up under his reproving!

Proverbs 3:12  For whom the LORD loves he corrects; and he whips every son whom he welcomes.

Proverbs 3:16  For length of existence and years of life are in her right hand; and in her left riches and glory. Out of her mouth goes forth in righteousness; and law and mercy she wears upon her tongue.

Solomon worshipped Other gods and idols

One gets the impression that Solomon started to worship other gods in his old age. But this would not have happened if he never married foreign women. His wives turned his heart to other gods

1Ki_11:4  And it came to pass in a time of old age of Solomon,  his wives turned aside his heart after other gods. And his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.

1Ki_11:5  And Solomon went after Ashtoreth god of the Sidonians and after Milcom the abomination of Ammon.

1Ki_11:6  And Solomon did evil before the LORD, and did not go after the LORD as David his father.

1Ki_11:7  Then Solomon built a high place to Chemosh, the idol of Moab, in the mountain before Jerusalem, and to Molech the idol of the sons of Ammon.

GOD appears to Solomon through a dream

This appeared to be early in his reign. If you should go through this discourse and is not careful, you will have missed a lot. Some words are very important

1Ki 3:5  And the LORD appeared to Solomon in sleep at night. And the LORD said to Solomon, Ask any request for yourself!

1Ki 3:6  And Solomon said, You did great mercy with your servant David my father, as he went before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in straightness of heart with you. And you guarded him by this great mercy, to grant to him a son sitting upon his throne as this day.

1Ki 3:7  And now, O LORD, my God, you gave reign to your servant in place of David my father. And I am a small boy; and I do not know my entering and my exiting.

1Ki 3:8  And your servant in midst of your people whom you chose, a populous people who cannot be counted.

1Ki 3:9  And you shall give your servant a heart to hear and to litigate your people in righteousness, to perceive between good and bad. For who shall be able to judge this weighty for your people?

Solomon has requested basically requested that GOD give him the knowledge to running the affairs of the nation wisely and to judge between them in righteousness. Israel was a large nation at the time and Solomon was relatively young.  It would take empowerment from GOD to run it successfully. On the surface this was very commendable of Solomon. He was asking for wisdom. He was asking for a good thing

1Ki 3:11  And the LORD said to him, Because you asked this thing from me, and you did not ask many days for yourself, and you did not ask for riches, nor asked for the lives of your enemies; but you asked for yourself understanding to hear judgment;

In the KJV version this would read: 1 Ki 3:11  And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

The LORD said to him,  you have asked for a good request. You could have asked for “many days” as in the Apostolic polyglot which I use. In the King James version, it says “long life”. Keep your eyes on that phrase, it is going to pop up again and you may miss it. He could have asked for riches and he didn’t. He could have asked for the life of his enemies. But instead he only asks for understanding to discern judgment(wisdom)

1Ki 3:12  behold, I have done according to your word; behold, I give to you an intelligent and wise heart. There has not been one as you before you, and after you there shall not rise up one likened to you.

GOD was granting him his request but bountifully…he would be wiser than those who came before him and those that came after him.

1Ki 3:13  And indeed what you have not asked, I have given to you, even riches and glory, as there is not a man likened to you among the kings.

GOD has also granted him riches and glory, bountifully. Some of the things he had not asked for, he will receive unconditionally!

1Ki 3:14  And if you should have gone in my way, to guard my commandments, and my orders, as David your father went, then I will prolong your days.

Now GOD is offering him something he has not asked for—“long life or many days or prolong your days” these phrases are synonymous in the Bible. but this one is conditional. He would have to walk in GOD’s way and obey HIS commandments and orders. if he walked before GOD like his father David did. We will see later what this is talking about.

The LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, after the completion of the temple in Jerusalem

This was apparently in the early stage of Solomon’s reign, this is the second appearance, just after he completed building the temple. This time, no granting of wishes. This time it is just a terse warning! Yes, if Solomon would have obeyed GOD not to serve other gods and worship them. And If he would have gone into the way of the LORD just as his father David did, today his line would be still ruling Israel today.

1Ki 9:And the LORD said to him, I heard your prayer and your supplication, which you beseeched before me. I sanctified this house which you built, to establish my name there into the eon. And my eyes and my heart will be there all the days.

1Ki 9:4  And you, if you should go before me as your father David went, in sacredness of heart, and in straightness, to do according to all which I gave charge to him, and you should keep my orders and my commandments,

1Ki 9:5  then I will raise up the throne of your kingdom over Israel into the eon, as I spoke to your father David, saying, There shall not be removed from you a man leading in Israel.

But Solomon did not obey as we have seen earlier. Solomon married Alien wives and served the gods of his wives. (1Ki_11:9)  And the LORD was provoked to anger at Solomon, for he turned aside his heart from the LORD God of Israel — the one appearing to him twice,

Solomon sins provided GOD with the legal impetus to invoke the curses of Deuteronomy 28

We cannot blame all the sins that Israel did on Solomon alone. That just wouldn’t be fair. Israel was sinning and rebelling against GOD even before they came into the land of Canaan. And all the way through to the time of Solomon. GOD had warned them that these consequences would catch up with them.

Jdg 2:10  And indeed all that generation was added to their fathers. And another generation rose up after them which did not know the LORD, and indeed the work which he did to Israel.

Jdg 2:11  And the sons of Israel acted wickedly before the LORD, and they served to the Baalim.

Jdg 2:12  And they abandoned the LORD God of their fathers, the one leading them out of the land of Egypt, and they went after other gods of the gods of the peoples surrounding them; and they did obeisance to them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

Jdg 2:13  And they abandoned the LORD, and served to Baal and to the Ashtoreths.

Jdg 2:14  And the LORD was provoked to anger in rage with Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of ones despoiling, and they carried them away captive. And he gave them into the hand of their enemies round about, and they were not able to oppose against the face of their enemies.

Jdg 2:15  In all wherever they went, even the hand of the LORD  was against them for bad, as the LORD said, and as the LORD swore to them; and he squeezed them exceedingly.
Solomon was charged with leading GOD’s people in righteousness and justice. But Solomon lead them away from GOD, through his evil example of idolatry. His disobedience and idolatry provide the legal impetus for GOD to arraign Israel for the  Deuteronomic curses so they can be scattered around the world.  Follow this discourse carefully:

1Ki 9:3  And the LORD said to him, I heard your prayer and your supplication, which you beseeched before me.

1Ki 9:6  But if by turning, you should turn, you and your children, from me and my orders which I put before you, so as to not keep, and you should go and should serve other gods, and should do obeisance to them;

1Ki 9:7  then I will remove Israel from the land which I gave to them,; and this house which I sanctified to my name I shall throw away from my face. And Israel will be for extinction and for a discussion among all the peoples.

1Ki 9:8  And this lofty house, every one traveling by it shall be amazed, and shall whistle. And they shall say, For what reason did the LORD do thus to this land, and to this house?

1Ki 9:9  And they shall say, Because they abandoned the LORD their God, the one leading their fathers from out of the house of slavery of Egypt, and they took hold of alien gods, and did obeisance to them, and served to them. On account of this the LORD brought upon them all this evil.

There it is:  If Solomon obeyed the voice of GOD, and not worship the gods of the gentile nations, then the temple in Jerusalem would still be there in all its magnificent glory. Israel wouldn’t have been thrown out of the land during the Assyrian dispersion until finally the expulsion of Judah in AD70.  So now you know why the temple over there in the so-called Jewish state is no more. It’s Because we abandoned the LORD our God, the one leading our fathers from out of the house of slavery of Egypt, and we took hold of alien gods, and did obeisance to them, and served to them. On account of this the LORD brought upon us all this evil!!

Deu 28:64 And the LORD your God will disperse you into all the nations, from the tip of the earth, unto the other tip of the earth. And you shall slave there to other gods of wood and stone, which you have no knowledge of, nor your fathers.

Deu 28:68  And the LORD will return you unto Egypt in boats, and in the way which I said, You shall not proceed again to behold it. And you shall be sold there to your enemies for manservants and maidservants, and none shall be acquiring you.

It is actually named after him. It is called the captivity of Solomon!

Amo_1:6  Thus says the LORD, For the three impious deeds of Gaza, and for the four, I will not turn away from them. Because of their capturing the captivity of Solomon, to close them up in Edom.

Amo_1:9  Thus says the LORD, For the three impious deeds of Tyre, even for the four, I will not turn away from her. Because they closed up the captivity of Solomon in Edom, and remembered not the covenant of brethren.

Some misconceptions about Solomon’s relationship to GOD

Didn’t the Bible say that GOD loved Solomon

This idea clearly emanates from (2Sa 12:24-25)  And David comforted his wife Bath-sheba. And he entered to her, and went to bed with her, and she conceived, and gave birth to a son, and called his name Solomon. And the LORD loved him. And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and called his name Jedidiah, by the word of the LORD.

Let us examine this word love carefully. It is the Greek G25(agapaō) in the dictionary. Thayer Definition: 1) of persons 1a) to welcome, to entertain, to be fond of, to love dearly. When you examine the context, you will see that the best example of use could only be “to welcome”. Here is the context– king David, Solomon’s father had committed adultery Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba. She became pregnant. David subsequently had Uriah murdered. GOD struck the male child that Bathsheba bore and he died seven days later, as foretold by Nathan the prophet. The next child of David and Bathsheba was named Solomon. GOD killed the first child, but God accepted Solomon. He didn’t kill him as David might have expected

Here is a second example (Neh_13:26 ) Did not Solomon king of Israel thus sin? and among many nations there was not a king likened to him, and he was one being loved by God, and God appointed him as king over all Israel, and in this the alien wives turned him aside.

This is the very same word G25(agapaō) . The context is this: the prophet Nehemiah is berating the Israelite that had previously returned from the Babylonian captivity. Now they are cavorting with alien women. He is castigating them, Not congratulating them! Basically, he is putting some perspective on their sins. GOD accepted Solomon and chose him to lead HIS people Israel. During his reign GOD empowered him with wisdom and wealth. Solomon was the most important king of his time. But Solomon fell into sin and idolatry by marrying foreign women, against GOD’s commandments.  They are now doing the same thing, but they nothing like Solomon. so how could they think they could get away with doing the same thing when Solomon didn’t.

Didn’t the Bible say Solomon Loved GOD?

This would be a pertinent verse that most people used. (1Ki_3:3)  And Solomon loved the LORD, to go in the orders of David his father; only he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places. Same Greek number G25 (agapaō). Solomon had respect to GOD or Solomon entertain GOD, or Solomon welcomed GOD in respect to go in the orders of his father David. What was David order. It was building this great magnificent temple.

1Ch_28:20  And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and manly, and act! Do not fear nor be terrified! for the LORD my God is with you. He will not send you away, and in no way will he abandon you until you complete every ministration of work of the house of the LORD

Remember it is written: (Joh_14:15)  If ye love me, keep my commandments. Same word G25(agapaō)  used here. But the context would demand either of the phrase: “to be fond of” or “to love dearly” to be used. Solomon didn’t love GOD or he would have kept HIS commandments!

So How could Solomon be not saved? He wrote books of the Bible-he is a prophet!

Was Solomon a Bona fide prophet, like Moses, David, Jerimiah, Daniel, Samuel, Ezekiel. To answer that question, we have to define a prophet in terms of GOD’s relationship with them and the people of Israel. A prophet is someone that get a message from the GOD of Israel to the people of Israel. (Num_12:6)  And he said to them, Hear my words. If there should be a prophet among you to the LORD, I will be made known to him in a vision, and in sleep I will speak to him or (Deu_18:18)I shall raise up a prophet to them from amidst their brethren, as you, and I shall put my word in his mouth; and he shall speak to them in so far as I give charge to him.

So, the words are of GOD are given to the prophet. It is Not the prophet. He only penned them or speak them to Israel. By The Way:  Deu_18:18is in reference to YESHUA

Then there were the false prophets that claimed that they got word from  GOD but didn’t. (Deu_18:20)  Except the prophet, who ever should be impious to speak a word in my name, which I did not assign to him to speak, and who ever should speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die. (Act_13:6)  And having gone through the island as far as Paphos, they found a certain magus, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Barjesus

That said we can argue successfully that Solomon is a bona fide prophet. We have reasonable certainty that he is the author of most of the Proverbs, The Songs of Solomon and Ecclesiastics. But not so fast. Remember what we mentioned above that the prophet takes the word of GOD? It is clear from the verses below that, GOD is the author of these above-mentioned books of the Bible, and NOT Solomon. In this respect he is a prophet similar to Jerimiah Ezekiel, Daniel, Isiah, etc.

1Ki_4:29  And the LORD gave intellect to Solomon and exceedingly great wisdom, and an increase in heart, as the sand by the sea.

1Ki_5:12  And the LORD gave to Solomon wisdom as he said to him. And there was peace between Hiram and between Solomon. And they ordained a covenant between them.

2Ch_9:22  And Solomon was magnified above all the kings of the earth, even in riches and wisdom.

2Ch_9:23  And all the kings of the earth sought the face of Solomon to hear his wisdom, of which God put in his heart.

There are a couple other prophets that Solomon warrants comparison with, for example Balaam. He considered a bribe to curse Israel. A narrative in Numbers chapters 22, 23, and 24. Relates how GOD can put HIS word in the mouth of a non-Israelite prophet. Actually, in the narrative GOD even speak to this evil soothsayer through a donkey.  After several years of wandering, Israel was encamped west of Moab. The king of Moab seeing what Israel did to the Amorites, rightfully feared them. He sent for the Soothsayer Balaam to curse them hoping that may make a way to overcome them. After the messengers came to Balaam, GOD confronted him:

Num 22:12  And God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them, nor shall you curse the people; for they are blessed.

At some point Balaam insisted on going with the messengers to Moab and GOD confronted him on the way, speaking through his donkey. GOD allowed him to go but commanded him to speak only the words that GOD will put in his mouth.

Num 23:5  And God put a word into the mouth of Balaam, and he said, Turning towards Balak thus you shall speak.

Num 23:7  And taking up his parable, he said, From out of Mesopotamia Balak king of Moab fetched me, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come curse for me Jacob! and, Come accurse to me Israel!

Num 23:8  How shall I curse whom the LORD does not curse? And how shall I imprecate maledictions upon whom God does not imprecate maledictions upon?

Num 23:9  For from the top of mountains I shall see him; and from hills I shall pay attention to him. Behold, a people shall dwell alone , and among nations they shall not be reckoned together.

Num 23:10  Who determined exactly the seed of Jacob, and who shall count out peoples of Israel? May my soul die among souls of the just, and may my seed become as the seed of this.

Balak the king of Moab protested because obviously Balaam has just blessed Israel

Num 23:11  And Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? For a curse for my enemies I have called you, and behold, you have blessed a blessing.

Num 23:12  And Balaam said to Balak, Is it not as many things as God should put in my mouth this I will guard to speak?

The narrative is quite long so I will have to give a synopsis. When the LORD speak who can help but prophecy. Balaam made a series of prophecy about Israel and its relationship to its neighbors and prophecy about Israel, and YESHUA and end time prophecies.

Num 23:18  And taking up his parable, he said, Rise up, O Balak, and hear! Give ear, O witness son of Zippor!

Num 23:19  God is not as a man to waver, nor as a son of man to be threatened. He in speaking, shall he not do? Shall he speak, and not adhere to?

Num 24:2  And Balaam lifting up his eyes, looks down on Israel encamped by tribes. And spirit of God became upon him.

Num 24:3  And taking up his parable, he said, Says Balaam son of Beor. Says the man seeing true.

Num 24:4  Says the one hearing oracles of God, who saw a vision of God in sleep; uncovering his eyes.

Num 24:7  A man came forth from out of his seed, and he shall dominate many nations. Andd Gog his kingdom shall be raised up high, and his kingdom shall be increased.

Num 24:8  God guided him from out of Egypt; as the glory of a unicorn to him. He shall eat the nations of his enemies, and he will extract the marrow of their thickness, and with his arrows he shall shoot an enemy.

Num 24:9  Lying down he rested as a lion, and as a cub who shall raise him? The ones blessing you, they are blessed; and the ones cursing you, they are cursed.

Num 24:7  A man came forth from out of his seed, and he shall dominate many nations. And Gog his kingdom shall be raised up high, and his kingdom shall be increased.

Num 24:8 God guided him from out of Egypt; as the glory of a unicorn to him. He shall eat the nations of his enemies, and he will extract the marrow of their thickness, and with his arrows he shall shoot an enemy.

Num 24:17  I will show to him, but not now. I bless, and he does not approach. A star will arise from out of Jacob, and a man shall rise up from out of Israel, and he shall devastate the heads of Moab, and he shall despoil all of the sons of Sheth.

Num 24:18  And Edom shall be an inheritance, and Esau his enemy shall be an inheritance. And Israel acted in strength.

Num 24:19  And one shall be awakened from out of Jacob, and shall destroy the one escaping from the city.

Num 24:20  And having seen Amalek, and taking up his parable, he said, The head of nations is Amalek, and his seed shall perish.

Num 24:23  And taking up his parable, he said, Oh, Oh, who shall live whenever God should appoint these things?

Num 24:24  And one shall come forth from out of the hands of the Chittim, and they shall afflict Assyria, and they shall afflict Hebrews(Eber), and they with one accord shall perish.

These are wonderful words of prophecies, some not found elsewhere in the Bible. They came out of the mouth of a wicked soothsayer, but they are the word of GOD. In this sense Solomon is no different than Balaam as a prophet. Both prophecy the word that GOD tells them. Both are just unsaved people. To be sure that Balaam was an unsaved man we read in (Jos_13:22)  Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them. And (2Pe_2:15)  Leaving behind the straight way, they wandered, following after the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved  the wage of unrighteousness;

Solomon did not receive eternal Life…He apparently wasn’t even interested in it***

2Sa 12:13  And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said to David, And the LORD cast aside your sin, and you shall not die.

The backdrop to this story is a terrible incident in 2Sa 12. King David had succumbed to lust and had invited a very attractive woman into his home. He had an adulterous affair and she became pregnant. In order to cover up this sin, David plotted the murder of her husband. He thought he was ok and these things were covered up and nobody would be the wiser. Wrong!! GOD knows everything. GOD sent an emissary by Nathan the prophet to confront David. Now Nathan pointed the finger straight at David.

The one reading this will be rightly confused. King David died in 971BC. What does it mean that “you shall not die”? There is only two possible way to look at this statement.

  • The author of this statement (GOD) made an error or HIS word is not infallible
  • We do not understand what HE is saying, and we need HIM to explain it to us

We have a similar situation in in Genesis.

Gen 2:16  And the LORD God gave charge to Adam, saying, From all of a tree of the one in the paradise you shall eat food,

Gen 2:17  but from the tree of the knowing good and evil, you shall not eat from it; but in whatever day you should eat from it, to death you shall die.

By now everybody knows how that turned out. Adam listened to Satan(or his wife, depending on your point of view) and disobeyed GOD, and the judgment of death was passed to him. Adam apparently lived many centuries after that. At some point Adam must have thought GOD had apparently forgotten the judgment GOD passed unto him. He eventually died at 930 years from the day he was created.

So, GOD told one man (David) that he shall not die, and HE told another (Adam) that he would die. Both is not here with us. Adam was not supposed to die. He would have lived forever if he had passed the obedience test from GOD. He wouldn’t have to die physically, and all his descendants would be spared that death. He didn’t pass the test and now he and all his descendants must die. But here is GOD telling David that he shall not die. The key to this answer is in the phrase “to death you shall die”. Adam would die to death or he would not have eternal life. David would not die (unto death) He will have eternal life.

Eze_18:21  And the lawless one, if he should turn from all his lawless deeds which he did, and should keep all my commandments, and should do equity and righteousness and mercy; to life he shall live, and he shall not die.

This word “life” is synonymous with eternal life. If you are given life, it is eternal….you cannot die! If anyone turns away from their lawless deeds and keep GOD’s commandments…Just like David he will not die

Joh_5:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

That is exactly what it means. Your body may be deposited in a grave when you die (physically) but you “”passed from death unto life”

The phrase, eternal life everlasting life, life eternal is often used in the new testament, but in the old testament they are synonymous with other phrases such as:  long life; length of days; length of existence; duration of days; life into the eon; prolong days)

Psa_21:4  He asked life of you, and you gave to him duration of days, into the eon of the eon.

Pro_3:1-2  O son, forget not my laws, and give heed to my sayings in your heart!. For the length of existence, and years of life and peace shall be added to you.

Joh_10:28  And I give to them eternal life, and in no way shall they perish into the eon; and not shall any seize them by force from out of my hand.

A Summary:

With all that in mind Let us revisit Solomon (1King 3:11-14)

1Ki 3:11  And the LORD said to him, Because you asked this thing from me, and you did not ask many days for yourself, and you did not ask for riches, nor asked for the lives of your enemies; but you asked for yourself understanding to hear judgment;

1Ki 3:12  behold, I have done according to your word; behold, I give to you an intelligent and wise heart. There has not been one as you before you, and after you there shall not rise up one likened to you.

1Ki 3:13  And indeed what you have not asked, I have given to you, even riches and glory, as there is not a man likened to you among the kings.

1Ki 3:14  And if you should have gone in my way, to guard my commandments, and my orders, as David your father went, then I will prolong your days.

Solomon asked for wisdom to lead Israel. GOD not only gave him wisdom abundantly but adds riches and glory abundantly. HE also promises to add “prolong your days”. One problem though, this was conditional!. Solomon would have to obey GOD commandments. We clearly saw that he did not. Solomon died an unsaved son of Israel (he died in his sins) He did obeisance to Satan so his name was not written in the “Book of life” (Rev_13:8)  And they did obeisance to him, all the ones dwelling upon the earth, whose name has not been written in the book of the life of the lamb, of the one having being slain from the founding of the world.

Pro_3:16  For length of existence and years of life are in her right hand; and in her left riches and glory. Out of her mouth goes forth in righteousness; and law and mercy she wears upon her tongue.

Pro_16:17  The paths of life turn aside from evils; and the ways of righteousness are length of existence. The one receiving instruction will be among good things; and the one keeping reproofs shall be made wise. The one who guards his own ways gives heed to his own soul; and the one loving his life shall spare his mouth.

Rev_20:15  And if any should not be found written in the book of life he was cast into the lake of fire.

Isn’t it interesting that these verses in Proverbs was written by Solomon. Didn’t Solomon forgot GOD’s laws and commandment: If this is the word of Solomon and not GOD, then Solomon prophesied against himself. At some point did Solomon ever think about turning. GOD never killed him when he started, so why should he turn. This is a lesson to all you so-called Hebrew or Hebrew Israelites. GOD hasn’t killed you yet doesn’t mean HE won’t hold you in account.

Eze 18:24  But in the turning the just from his righteousness, and he should commit iniquity, according to all the iniquities which the lawless one did; if he should do thus, he shall not live. In all the things of his righteousness, which he did, in no way shall they be remembered; in his transgression in which he fell, and in his sins in which he sinned, in them he shall die. Solomon did many good things. He wrote some of the books of the Bible, he built the temple. But not of that is remembered! He died in his sins.
